Giving of Our

TIME & TALENT

On one occasion, an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus.
"Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus asked, "What is written in the Law? How do you read it?"
He answered:

"‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul

and with all your strength and with all your mind';

and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'"
"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied.

"Do this and you will live."
Luke 10:26-28

People of St. George's - Let this Time & Talent guide point you toward the many and varied ways you can be involved at St. George's.

Time and Talent is about stewardship - our call to love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our strength and with all our mind, and our neighbors as ourselves.

Please browse through these offerings prayerfully, asking God how you are called to live into your baptismal ministry as a beloved child of God.

Angel Food Ministries

Contact: Kathy Roosa, 363-8791, roosak@yahoo.com

Angel Food Ministries (AFM) is a non-profit, non-denominational food program dedicated to providing food assistance to families throughout the U.S. in 35 states and delivers orders to over 500,000 families monthly. Participation is easy and there are no qualifications necessary to participate. Because of buying power, low overhead and non-profit status, boxes of retail-quality food cost $35 or less. One box feeds a family of four for about a week or a single person for close to a month.

Orders are placed once a month (cash or money order only) and delivered for pick-up at St. George's on a Saturday (order and pick-up dates will be advertised well in advance). To bring your cash or money order in on a Sunday, contact in advance one of the AFM volunteers to figure out when to meet up with them (Currently: Kathy Roosa 363-8791, Cynthia Hayes 363-3589, or Ted Little 363-7527). You can mail your money order (no cash in mail, please!) to fulfill your order—just make sure you mail it to the parish office, attention Lorrie, at least a week before the order deadline. Or, you can bring cash or money order into the parish office, to Lorrie, weekdays between 9:00 and 2:00 (call first to make sure Lorrie is in the office, please).

Foyer Groups

Contact: Marcia Williams, 646-2660, rwilli2@maine.rr.com

This activity is purely social. The Foyer Groups are groups of people who sign up and are divided into groups of 8 - 10. Singles are welcome. These groups agree to get together for a period of 4 - 6 months. Each group plans its own activities. Frequently, it is a simple meal at your home but other activities can be planned. This is an excellent way for parishioners to get to know one another on a social basis.

The Journey to Adulthood Youth Groups

The parish office, 363-7376

J2A is a complete youth ministry program of spiritual formation for 6th - 12th grades. It uses Bible study, prayer, rites of passage, outreach ministries and both serious and playful activities to underscore its core messages: 1) Manhood and womanhood are gifts from God. 2) Adulthood must be earned. There are three two-year segments of the program at St. George's Church:

Rite-13: The first two years (12- & 13-year-olds) focus on celebrating the individuality of each young person and his/her creative potential. The Rite-13 liturgy (a celebration of manhood and womanhood) is the community expression of this.

J2A: The middle portion of the program (14- & 15-year-olds) engages youth with the skills and critical thinking involved in adulthood. The youth plan and embark on a pilgrimage together at the end of this segment.

YAC (Young Adults in Church): A mentor-based program helps older teens (16- to 18-year-olds) to discern and carry out a ministry within their church or in the larger community. Vocation and development of a personal credo are also emphasized.

The format for the Spring Yard Sale can be "buy your own table, bring your own treasures to sell." If so, an individual can buy a table, or a family can do a table together. Got arts, crafts, or just plain stuff to sell? This is your chance! The cost of the tables and a percentage of the earnings will benefit St. George's. Participants will be responsible for disposing of anything that doesn't sell. Sometimes it has been a straight sale of old treasures to new buyers to benefit the church.

MINISTRY TO OTHERS

Outreach

Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands but yours, No feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
Christ's compassion must look out on the world.
Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good.
Yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.

Prayer attributed to St. Teresa of Avila

This poem says it all. All of us want to make a difference in this life, and many do it through generosity and good works. The church is in a position to organize these efforts and become the vehicle through which one person can join with others to reach effective goals, to actually change lives and make a real difference. Join us in one of these programs. The rewards are great - a sense of purpose, joy and well-being, and happy times working with others who become friends in a special way.

We also ask for some cooks to prepare desserts or parts of the meal at home ahead of time to simplify preparation. A sign up-sheet with the various team jobs is hung in the church two weeks before each meal. Time commitment varies from 1/2 hour to maximum of four hours.
